Malopolska Institute of Culture receives a grant for preparing a handbook of strategic planning

The Malopolska Institute of Culture will be a partner of the Information Society Development Foundation, which is carrying out the project as part of the all-Poland Library Development Programme. The Foundation received a grant for the above purpose to the amount of over one million PLN under the EEA Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism.
The project ‘Libraries in the Knowledge Society – Strategies for the Future’ is addressed to all province libraries in Poland. Its aim is to prepare long-term action and development strategies. The following modules will be carried out under the project:

1. A series of four three-day workshops on building strategies of action for cultural institutions. The workshops will be attended by representatives of province public libraries, three regional libraries from Norway, and representatives of key institutions for the implementation of the formulated strategies.
2. A research trip to Norway. Its aim will be to acquaint representatives of province libraries with the ways in which Norwegian libraries implement strategies. While visiting libraries and other cultural institutions and meeting their managers, and in the course of active classes the participants will learn about different methods of analyzing users’ needs, preparing attractive cultural offer, advertising and evaluating activity etc.
3. A handbook of strategic planning for cultural institutions (a module realised by the MIC). 4000 copies of the handbook will be published by the Malopolska Institute of Culture; the handbook will comprise a step-by-step description of the process of strategy creating and examples of innovative activities carried out by libraries from Poland and Norway.
4. The conference which sums up the project (a module realised by the MIC) will be addressed to project participants, representatives of the major cultural institutions, central and regional authorities, and the media. It will provide an opportunity to present strategies of province public libraries and to launch the handbook of strategic planning.
